Watercolor for Beginners

Discover watercolor painting, a medium celebrated for its transparency and capacity to depict light. In this course, you'll familiarize yourself with key materials and tools, while mastering basic techniques that will lead to a complete painting. Throughout, you'll gain confidence and a solid grasp of fundamental concepts.

This class is ideal for those who are just starting out and anyone looking to revisit and strengthen their foundational skills.

Class Level: Adults and Teens 16+ · Beginner

Tuition includes class instruction, use of all studio equipment, paint, paper, and a limited selection of additional supplies.

Students will need to purchase a few personal items beyond what is provided. A detailed supply list will be shared and reviewed during the first class, along with recommendations for where to purchase materials.

En Plein Air

As winter fades, there is no better time to step outside and capture the first signs of spring on the canvas. En plein air, a French expression meaning "in the open air," is the practice of painting outdoors to capture nature as it unfolds before you. Each week the class meets at a new location where artist, Wes Sherman, offers guidance, feedback, and insights to support your creative process. You will learn to paint directly from nature, sharpen your observational skills, and explore what it means to be a contemporary landscape painter while fully engaging with your surroundings, your materials, and your own artistic vision.

Students are invited to work in either oil, acrylic or watercolor. Please bring whatever supplies you already have in the medium of your choice.

The first class will take place at Willowwood Arboretum in Chester, NJ. Specific meeting location details will be sent by the instructor via email.

Art From Your Start

Art From Your Start offers a personalized art exploration experience. Led by artist Barbara Guerriero-Flites, students share their inspiring images and collaboratively select a project aligned with their interests and goals. This course encourages students to develop work that highlights their individual style and creativity within a supportive, non-judgmental setting.

This course meets for 10 Sessions.

Non-Member Price: $300

Students should bring a 16x 20 canvas, a set of acrylic paints, and a variety of brush in assorted sizes.

Sculpture

Calendar Sep 17, 2026 at 1 pm, runs for 12 weeks

Students will explore a variety of techniques and concepts in ceramic sculpture, including reductive carving, relief carving, coil building, and slab building. We’ll work with both representational subjects—such as the figure and the natural world—and abstract approaches that encourage personal expression. Throughout the class, students will have the opportunity to experiment with different finishing methods, including oxidation and reduction firing, as well as cold finishing techniques, giving each piece its own unique character. This is a hands-on, creative environment where exploration and individual artistic growth are encouraged.

Tuition is all-inclusive and covers the cost of class instruction,model fees, use of all studio equipment, glazes, and the firing of your in-class creations.

Clay purchases and tools are not included. To ensure the safety of our kilns during the firing process, clay must be purchased at The Center.

Watercolor Studio

This class is perfect for artists who are comfortable with watercolor painting but still want some hands-on guidance with the medium. In this class, we'll explore using still life setups in the studio or at home, as well as photographs. Each session kicks off with a brief demo and some tips on color theory, composition, perspective, or specific techniques — or whatever topics the students are excited to explore. It’s a wonderful next step after Watercolor Exploration.

Students with autism spectrum disorder and other special needs will explore a variety of art projects tailored to their interests and abilities in both two- and three-dimensional forms. This class promotes communication, creativity, and problem-solving through hands-on activities using clay, paint, and many other materials. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Students ages 16 and up are welcome to participate.We kindly ask that a parent or caregiver remain in the classroom with their child for the entire class.

This class runs for 8 weeks

No class on 10/8 and 10/22.

Tableware with Keiko

Calendar Sep 17, 2026 at 6 pm, runs for 12 weeks

This class focuses on tableware sets ranging from drinking vessels to bowls and plates. It is an excellent opportunity to take your throwing/making to another level-learn to create sets and multiples that match. Small batch production techniques, throwing off the hump, using throwing gauges, Japanese tombo, and the Japanese method of making slabs will be taught.  Learn to make beautiful slabs without a slab roller!

Tuition is all-inclusive and covers the cost of class instruction, use of all studio equipment, glazes, and the firing of your in-class creations.

Fundamentals of Drawing

Drawing has been the foundation of art throughout the centuries.  This class will help students build and refine the techniques needed for drawing while delving further into 4 areas of study: proportion, perspective, value, and color theory.  Learn how to use line, shape, value, and color to form a composition and how to use your observation skills to bring objects to life on paper.
