This student-moderated studio provides a relaxed, focused environment to practice in the medium of your choice. With no formal instruction, you have the freedom to experiment, observe, and develop your work at your own pace. Register for the full four-week session to work from the same clothed live portrait model, giving you time to truly refine your skills, or drop in for any day that fits your schedule.

Portraiture with a Model is open to artists working in all mediums

Students will work from a mix of sources, including photos, still-life setups, plein-air sketches, and live subjects, while exploring a range of oil painting methods and techniques. Artist and instructor Wes Sherman will guide you through approaches that strengthen your understanding of composition, color, and form while also supporting your personal creative direction.

This class welcomes all experience levels. You are encouraged to bring and use the oil or acrylic painting supplies you already have. A suggested materials list is included below for anyone who would like added guidance.

Pastels have been used to create beautiful and bold color drawings throughout the centuries.  Learn about the different types of pastel and how to blend and layer pastel to get a soft haze or a sharp edge.  The instructor will demonstrate how to approach a pastel drawing through various stages, from the composition and getting the correct proportions and perspective, to understanding which colors to use to get the correct shade you are looking for.  We will be drawing from photographs for this class.  You can use your own photos or use the reference that the instructor will supply.

Designed for artists of all skill levels, this class explores a range of acrylic techniques through nature-inspired themes. Participants will build confidence and develop their artistic voice while painting serene waterscapes, expressive landscapes, and luminous skies. Join watercolor artist Aprajita Lal for an evening class designed for students with some experience who are looking to strengthen their skills. Each session includes demonstrations, guided practice, and personalized feedback to help you gain greater control of the medium while continuing to develop your creative voice. You will have time to experiment, learn from others, and grow more confident in your watercolor painting.

Students will explore the wide range of visual possibilities that can be achieved with pencil. Working with the full spectrum from hard, light H pencils to soft, dark B pencils, students will learn how to create convincing three dimensional form within a unified composition.

Throughout the course, they will practice techniques such as foreshortening, smooth value gradation, shading, and cross hatching. The use of graphite dust will be introduced as a way to build atmosphere, deepen value, and expand expressive potential, making the drawing process both engaging and inventive.

This unique painting workshop explores the ideas of metamodernism, a contemporary approach that embraces both sincerity and self awareness. Together we will examine how to care deeply about painting while remaining conscious of the rich history, traditions, and artifice that shape the medium.

Through guided exercises and open studio time, students will strengthen their skills in drawing, surface, color, and composition while engaging with the emotional depth of their work.
