A rigorous and supportive critique forum encourages meaningful dialogue and fresh perspectives. Weekly readings enrich discussion and inspire thoughtful inquiry, creating a space for sustained growth and creative exploration.

Glaze Chemistry

John Reinking instructs the student in the theory and practice of glaze chemistry and glaze formulation. This curriculum starts at the beginning and goes through the materials, heat, cones, temperature, chemistry, colorants, glaze flaws, and more! Students will learn how to formulate original glazes from glaze materials. Instruction will cover stoneware and porcelain glazes. Special glaze effects such as lusters, ceramic decals, underglazes and overglazes will also be discussed.

With no formal instruction, you have the freedom to experiment, observe, and develop your work at your own pace. Watercolor Studio

This class is perfect for artists who are comfortable with watercolor painting but still want some hands-on guidance with the medium. In this class, we'll explore using still life setups in the studio or at home, as well as photographs. Each session kicks off with a brief demo and some tips on color theory, composition, perspective, or specific techniques — or whatever topics the students are excited to explore. It’s a wonderful next step after Watercolor Exploration. This is the in-person part of our hybrid program. You’ll find classmates joining us in the studio, while others attend virtually through Zoom, creating a lively, interactive group.

Pastels with Meg

Pastels have been used to create beautiful and bold color drawings throughout the centuries.  Learn about the different types of pastel and how to blend and layer pastel to get a soft haze or a sharp edge.  The instructor will demonstrate how to approach a pastel drawing through various stages, from the composition and getting the correct proportions and perspective, to understanding which colors to use to get the correct shade you are looking for.  We will be drawing from photographs for this class.  You can use your own photos or use the reference that the instructor will supply.
