In this class we will combine foundational skills like life-drawing with expressive experiments like collage and paint. Whether you are a sculptor, a painter, or a nature journalist, a sketchbook is a great space to keep ideas and try something new!

This student-moderated studio provides a relaxed, focused environment to practice in the medium of your choice. With no formal instruction, you have the freedom to experiment, observe, and develop your work at your own pace. Register for the full four-week session to work from the same clothed live portrait model, giving you time to truly refine your skills, or drop in for any day that fits your schedule.

Pastels have been used to create beautiful and bold color drawings throughout the centuries.  Learn about the different types of pastel and how to blend and layer pastel to get a soft haze or a sharp edge.  The instructor will demonstrate how to approach a pastel drawing through various stages, from the composition and getting the correct proportions and perspective, to understanding which colors to use to get the correct shade you are looking for.  We will be drawing from photographs for this class.  You can use your own photos or use the reference that the instructor will supply.

Drawing 101 Workshop

Don't be afraid to explore drawing! Start by getting comfortable with the basics, such as shapes and lines, and you'll find your skills growing in no time. In this workshop, artist Lena Shiffman will teach students the basic principles of drawing, including proportion, mass, value, and line. Working with charcoal on a variety of still-life displays, students will improve their drawing skills as they deepen their understanding of structure and composition.
