Under the guidance of sculptural ceramicist John Reinking, artists will work with refined hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques to deepen their studio practice and expand their creative range. Participants will explore the possibilities of the medium, clarify their artistic direction, and build a cohesive body of work. A rigorous and supportive critique forum encourages meaningful dialogue and fresh perspectives. Weekly readings enrich discussion and inspire thoughtful inquiry, creating a space for sustained growth and creative exploration.

Tuition includes the cost of class instruction, use of all studio equipment, glazes, and the firing of your in-class creations.

Realistic Drawing & Painting

Join artist Timothy Jahn for a 10-week journey into realistic portraiture. Perfect for adults eager to deepen their artistic skills, this class offers hands-on experience in drawing and in painting with oils or charcoal. Students will complete two portrait pieces from life and receive personalized, constructive feedback throughout the process. You will develop core skills such as likeness, color mixing, value, and edge control, building a strong foundation that will support all your future art projects.

Glaze Chemistry

John Reinking instructs the student in the theory and practice of glaze chemistry and glaze formulation. This curriculum starts at the beginning and goes through the materials, heat, cones, temperature, chemistry, colorants, glaze flaws, and more! Students will learn how to formulate original glazes from glaze materials. Instruction will cover stoneware and porcelain glazes. Special glaze effects such as lusters, ceramic decals, underglazes and overglazes will also be discussed.

Watercolor Studio

This class is perfect for artists who are comfortable with watercolor painting but still want some hands-on guidance with the medium. In this class, we'll explore using still life setups in the studio or at home, as well as photographs. Each session kicks off with a brief demo and some tips on color theory, composition, perspective, or specific techniques — or whatever topics the students are excited to explore. It’s a wonderful next step after Watercolor Exploration. This is the in-person part of our hybrid program. You’ll find classmates joining us in the studio, while others attend virtually through Zoom, creating a lively, interactive group.

Saturday Beginner Wheel

This beginner-friendly class is the perfect way to dive into the world of clay. Students will start with basic throwing techniques and progress at their own pace. Students will work with stoneware and fire their creations in an electric kiln to cone 6, making them microwave and dishwasher-safe. With demonstrations, hands-on support, and plenty of encouragement, each session is a chance to experiment, play, and discover the joy of pottery.

Join artist, Gene Kim, on Saturday mornings for a class full of comics, storytelling, and creativity! Each week, students explore fresh prompts that spark new stories, characters, and worlds while learning the basics of storytelling and character design. Kids will have time to draw, imagine, and collaborate as they bring their ideas to life and create comics to share with friends and family.

This program has continued to grow in popularity with each session, and spots fill quickly—early registration is highly recommended!

Students are encouraged to work at their own pace with guidance from instructor Lena Shiffman.
