Meta Modern Painting Workshop (Hybrid)

$4571 Originally: $160

with Wes Sherman

Calendar Apr 20, 2026 at 6:30 pm, runs for 5 weeks

This unique painting workshop explores the ideas of metamodernism, a contemporary approach that embraces both sincerity and self awareness. Together we will examine how to care deeply about painting while remaining conscious of the rich history, traditions, and artifice that shape the medium.

Through guided exercises and open studio time, students will strengthen their skills in drawing, surface, color, and composition while engaging with the emotional depth of their work. We will explore the creative “oscillations” that define metamodern painting, moving between hope and doubt, beauty and critique, skill and deconstruction.

Discussions of art history and contemporary theory will support your studio practice, and thoughtful critique will focus on both technical development and conceptual clarity.

This workshop is ideal for artists who want to advance their craft while situating their work within today’s artistic landscape. Participants should have some prior painting experience.

Come ready to think deeply, work seriously, and create paintings that are both technically strong and meaningfully engaged with the present moment.

Watercolor Workshop: Sketching Figures

$135

with Doris Ettlinger

Calendar May 17, 2026 at 11 am, runs for 1 week

Learn to capture the essence of the pose by sketching quickly and painting just a little slower. Working with a clothed model, we’ll warm up with gesture drawings, then paint short poses with one color for the shadow. Eventually, we will paint a longer pose exploring how light interacts with the figure, revealing its form and details. We’ll let colors blend where the values are the same. I will try to channel what I learned from two masters, Mel Stabin and Charles Reid. Their figures were full of light and life.
