Advanced Handbuilding & Sculpture

Calendar Jun 30, 2026 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks

Students will explore a variety of techniques and concepts in ceramic sculpture, including reductive carving, relief carving, coil building, and slab building. We’ll work with both representational subjects—such as the figure and the natural world—and abstract approaches that encourage personal expression. Throughout the class, students will have the opportunity to experiment with different finishing methods, including oxidation and reduction firing, as well as cold finishing techniques, giving each piece its own unique character. This is a hands-on, creative environment where exploration and individual artistic growth are encouraged.

Working with Raku

Calendar Jul 1, 2026 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks

Students will learn the history, contemporary aspects, and influences of Raku. They will utilize basic hand-building and throwing to create work that will then be fired in our Raku kiln. This hands-on firing technique, in which ceramic pieces are taken out of the kiln, glowing hot, and placed into an oxygen-reduced atmosphere, is one way to achieve vibrant, sparkling colors in raku ware.

Please note: Classes are held at The Center on Wednesdays. Firing will occur in collaboration with The Kiln Yard.

Saturday Wheel Throwing

This beginner-friendly class is the perfect way to dive into the world of clay. Students will start with basic throwing techniques and progress at their own pace. Students will work with stoneware and fire their creations in an electric kiln to cone 6, making them microwave and dishwasher-safe. With demonstrations, hands-on support, and plenty of encouragement, each session is a chance to experiment, play, and discover the joy of pottery.

Tuition includes the cost of class instruction, use of all studio equipment, glazes, and the firing of your in-class creations.

Friday Night Pottery Workshop: Handbuilding in July

Calendar Jul 31, 2026 at 6 pm, runs for 1 week

Get ready to get a little messy in the ceramics studio! Join Kaileen Campbell for an evening of creating in the pottery studio. She will guide you through the handbuilding process and offer options for decorating your piece.

Participants will choose their glaze, and we will handle the firing and finishing for you. Finished pieces can be picked up approximately two weeks after the event. Light refreshments will be available.

Remember to wear or change into clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Adults only, 18+.
